Gobstopper is a bimonthly night of design and games, which I run in Dublin. A combination of Pictionary and design sprints, participants form into groups (read ”design agencies”), and throughout the evening are presented with a series of prompts and challenges. Using the bespoke Gobstopper white boards to explain their pitches to their peers, they compete to present the most innovative or ludicrous proposals and ultimately win the Gobstopper grand prize.

Gobstopper was created as I saw an opportunity to add variety to nightlife activities in Dublin. Secondly, I saw it is as an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to casually engage in creative thinking and public speaking, from those with experience in the practice, to those outside of the design discipline.
