And not you.
But not us.
And some of us live
comfortably in the
penthouses admiring all
that humanity has
accomplished despite
all the odds against them.
Some of us have reported
creatures crawling up
through the basement
levels, feeding on the
power lines... among
other things.
Some of us hide from the
loan shamans of the
Kommerce Kults, who
aim to collect their debts
and offerings on behalf
of their dark deity,
as they chant
*GREED IS GOD*.
Some of us delve into
levels and buildings
abandoned decades ago
in the hopes of finding
some treasure to
elevate us from our
current state, or at
least source some
stock options.
Some of us awake at
night to a dull crash,
as in the distance,
another skyscraper
crumbles. Perhaps
by design, or perhaps
by finding itself too
close to the
encroaching jungle.
For those brave enough,
the Sky bridges stretch
across the expanse,
connecting
tower to tower,
power to power.
Buildings are at once
cities and countries,
corporations
and kingdoms,
communes and cults.
Construction
never stops, as we
constantly strive
upwards and upwards.
The city of Telacathun
is our last refuge,
our greatest
accomplishment, and
our greatest burden.
A collection of some
hundreds of
skyscrapers,
stretching impossibly
upwards and reaching
towards the
scorched sky.
And up.
And up.
But humanity
cannot be defeated.
Progress cannot
be stopped.
And stubbornly,
humanity is instead
building up.
It is beyond doubt
that the earth is
no longer
a home
for us.
The jungles close in on the cities, and the swamps edge closer and closer towards our doorsteps. Creatures that once bowed to man have become bent and twisted out of shape, and seek out mortals with an uncanny malice.
